In our previous articles we have thoroughly examined AlphaDraft (recently acquired by FanDuel) and Vulcun platforms, as well as their websites.
We have also suggested some crucial strategies and what stats you should look for when trying to draft your lineup, in order to maximize your earnings (which is, after all, your main goal in every Daily Fantasy Contest).
What many of you are maybe unaware of is the fact that DraftKings have joined the ranks!
As we have mentioned the eSports industry is on the rise.
This has made a huge impact in how Daily Fantasy Sports sites cope with the situation, as more and more websites are willing to offer contests and huge prizes for participating in the Daily Fantasy eSports’ side of the game.
In this article we’ll have a quick overview of the DraftKings website and platform, offering insight into things you should be aware, before you fellow readers decide to register and start participating in the contests they offer.
What is DraftKings?
DraftKings is one of the most famous fantasy sports sites which is run by professionals.
DraftKings has been of the “front page” of major news sources, like the Wall Street Journal and New York Times, amongst others.
It offers a great number of games, bringing about a lot of contests (and a lot of winnings), with the total payout in 2015 alone being over $1 billion USD.
DraftKings has been covering major events and different sports, with the likes of NFL and NBA being among their most popular.
Even though competitive gaming is an ever-growing industry (especially in Asian and European countries) DraftKings is available –as for now- only in US and Canada.
DraftKings CEO Matt Kalish, has recently made a statement that there are plans for global expansion soon, with the first step towards that direction being the launch of DraftKings UK sister this month (October 2015).
DraftKings: Features and Staff
As previously mentioned, DraftKings is available only to US and Canada citizens and restricts play from a few individual states.
This can be a great disadvantage for the time being, so check regularly for any news on that subject if you live elsewhere.
Before completing your registration, you’ll be asked to connect your account with your credit card or your PayPal account.
The incentives offered for making your first deposit are truly great as you can double the amount of money you deposit with an upper limit of $600!
You have the ability to deposit the amount of money you want, depending on your needs, getting a 100% bonus amount. This bonus is trickled out to your account based on the dollar amount you play, which is typically around 4%.
DraftKings offers ridiculously huge prizes compared to other platforms.
On top of that, DraftKings has generated a great VIP system, which rewards players with points (called FPPs) that can be used in an in-site store, in order to buy products having the logo of DraftKings, plus contest tickets that can be used like real money in every contest.
Another useful feature is the Refer-A-Friend program, where you can earn up to 35% commission for each of your friends who uses your referral link in order to register.
Bear in mind that you should have at least 2 friends in order to receive the 35% commission. If you have for example a single referral, your share of revenue is lowered to 20%.
In terms of appearance, DraftKings seems like the best website out there.
Many features are offered, yet it remains customer-friendly and easy to access through their app.
Android users should be aware that due to Google’s policies, the app is unavailable for direct download through Google Store –you have to download the app from DraftKings website.
DraftKings and eSports
Even though League of Legends is the only eSport supported from DraftKings platform right now, there are plans for more and more games to be covered soon.
Under these circumstances, we can do nothing more than concentrate solely on the analysis of LoL features.
The rules for drafting your Lineup are pretty straightforward and similar to the other platforms, one way or another.
With a given budget of $50.000 you have to draft an 8-slot Lineup, with no more than 4 players from a single team.
Any given contest will include at least two matchups, so that you can pick your players from a pool of at least two different games.
The scoring breakdown, as well as the full rule guide, can be reviewed at any given time from the official website.
More specific analysis on the rules and how you can use them to your advantage will be available in our next articles.
DraftKings offers a huge number of contests and contest types.
There is a limited number of free-to-enter contests, which makes depositing money encouraged.
You can compete in the standard types of contests: Tournaments, Head-to-Head and 50/50s.
What is new here is the existence of formerly unknown (to an eSports player) types, like Multipliers, Double Ups and Satellite- Qualifiers.
The platform adds value by offering important features as you draft your Lineup.
You can filter the contests you want to participate in, enter the same tournament with the same Lineup (which is great for 50/50s) and reserve your entry prior to drafting your Lineup.
You have the ability to control your budget and allocate it to more important players by watching carefully the average remaining salary per player.
DraftKings is a titan in terms of contests and payouts, offering the best prizes out there.
It is absolutely legit so feel free to test their platform, watch out for promotions and you’ll surely be astonished.
And always remember the golden rule of playing: Safe playing is a pleasant play!
